Oyo commissioner Prof Shangodoyin, others celebrate Parrot Xtra Hour’s fiftth anniversary on Splash FM

Parrot Xtra Hour on Splash 105.5 FM, Ibadan celebrated its fifth anniversary on Tuesday, drawing praise and prayers from notable personalities, including Oyo State commissioner for public works and transport Professor Dahud Shangodoyin.

Prof. Shangodoyin, the celebrity guest on the special anniversary episode, reflected on his connection with the show.

“I am happy to be here today to mark the fifth anniversary of the radio show. I can still remember that I was the very first guest you had on the show five years ago when I was the Commissioner in charge of Oyo State’s Ministry of Education, Science and Technology.

“I bless God’s name on your behalf and I pray that the Almighty will continue to sustain Parrot Xtra Media Network, Splash 105.5fm and Lagelu 96.7fm radio stations owned by our father, Oba Adebayo Akande,” he said.

Founder of Parrot Xtra Media Network and host of Parrot Xtra Hour, Olayinka Agboola, expressed gratitude to Prof. Shangodoyin and his team for joining the celebration.

“We are most honoured that you were able to create time to join us as we celebrate our fifth anniversary as Radio Show producers. We appreciate this gesture. We must equally use the opportunity to congratulate the government of Oyo State under Engineer Seyi Makinde for the transformation we are all witnessing in the state. Our roads are now comparable to what we have in major cities abroad,” Mr Agboola said.

He then went ahead to explain why the fifth anniversary of the radio show was being celebrated in a ‘low-key’ manner.

According to him, “We decided not to deploy too much volume in the celebration of our fifth anniversary as radio program producers because the very big one is coming on Monday, May 5 this year by God’s Grace.

“On Monday, May 5, we plan to celebrate the 20th anniversary of Parrot Xtra Magazine and PMParrot.com – and of course, by God’s special grace, my 60th birthday. Our consultants, Ceedee Resources under Sir Clement Ige are already at work to ensure that the day records a huge success.”

Agboola also spoke passionately about his achievements as a media owner in the past 20 years.

His words “It has not been easy navigating through the murky waters in this industry. God has been there as our Pillar of Support. We love and enjoy what we do. It is serious hard work. We are proud to say it anywhere that what we do, nobody does it in Nigeria. We use the radio to generate content for both our Parrot Xtra Magazine and the online platform, pmparrot.com

“You see, we bring in a celebrity guest onto our radio show. After the interview session, we transcribe, publish on our website, later, we download and publish in our colourful magazine. To God be all the Glory.”

Agboola continued “I thank all our crew members at Parrot Xtra Media Network for their steadfastness. I also appreciate Prince Wale Michael of Online Dynamix for promising and delivering our heavily customised anniversary cake. We equally appreciate Mrs Omolola Benedict Ojo for supplying us with drinks.

“I must also appreciate the management of Splash/Lagelu FM for the opportunity given to us to express ourselves on air. Specifically, I salute Alagba Tunde Olawuwo, the General Manager of the radio stations who is also here to celebrate with us.”

The anniversary cake was cut by Prof. Shangodoyin, who was joined by dignitaries such as Dr. Taiwo Lasisi, acting rector of The Polytechnic, Ibadan, Chief Babatunde Tijani (Double Tee) and coordinating director Engineer Rauf Amoo.
