Omowunmi accuses Mohbad’s father of avoiding DNA test amid ongoing paternity dispute

Omowunmi, widow of late singer Ilerioluwa Aloba, popularly known as Mohbad, has accused her father-in-law Joseph Aloba, of avoiding a Deoxyribonucleic Acid (DNA) test to resolve the paternity dispute concerning her son with Mohbad.

During a July 9, 2024, sitting at the Magistrates Court in Ikorodu, Lagos State, both parties were directed to explore Alternative Dispute Resolution. However, closed-door negotiations failed to yield an agreement. Joseph Aloba had filed the suit seeking a DNA test for his grandson.

In October 2024, Monisola Odumosu, a representative of the family’s legal team, stated that Omowunmi had agreed to the DNA test. The court then ordered the test to be conducted at a mutually agreed-upon facility in Nigeria, with court-appointed officers supervising the process to ensure reliability.

A letter from Salawu Akingbolu Chambers, dated January 9, 2025, and signed by Kabir Akingbolu, revealed ongoing disagreements over the choice of medical facility.

Omowunmi reportedly rejected Joseph Aloba’s choice of the University College Hospital (UCH) Ibadan, citing the court’s earlier observations, while Aloba dismissed her preference for Lagoon Hospitals.

To demonstrate transparency, Omowunmi proposed The Eko Hospital and Reddington Hospitals in a December 11, 2024, letter, but received no response.

“We have patiently waited for your response, but nothing of the sort to date,” the letter read.

“We objected to UCH Ibadan due to the court’s concerns and conceded to your objection to Lagoon Hospitals, proposing two alternatives to show we have nothing to hide.”

Omowunmi expressed disappointment over accusations on social media by Joseph Aloba’s lawyer Taiwo Odumosu, alleging she was unprepared for the DNA test.

“We denounce any such misrepresentation and demand an apology for these unhealthy allegations,” the letter stated.

She also accused Joseph Aloba of defaming her son Liam online, calling him a “bastard” despite the court’s directive to proceed with the DNA test.

“The irony of running away from the DNA test while maligning my son is laughable,” Omowunmi added.

Omowunmi threatened to independently conduct the DNA test and publish the results if delays persist. “If your client continues in this tardy manner, we will have no choice but to conduct the DNA ourselves and inform the court of our position,” the letter concluded.

In a response dated January 11, 2025, from Hillceetee Partners and signed by Emmanuel Oroko, Joseph Aloba denied the allegations. Oroko clarified that Odumosu’s media comments were misinterpreted, explaining that the delay stemmed from the hospitals’ unresponsiveness rather than Omowunmi’s readiness. “Mr. Odumosu respects the professionalism exhibited by both law firms throughout this case,” Oroko wrote.

Oroko also announced that Hillceetee Partners would cease representing Joseph Aloba in the matter, stating, “This response is necessary as a courtesy to set the record straight.”
