Actress Ini Edo has opened up about her decision to opt for surrogacy and the paternity of her daughter during the latest season of the reality show Young, Famous & African.
The 42-year-old revealed that her choice to explore surrogacy was influenced by her struggles with fertility, including multiple miscarriages.
“I never thought I would have fertility issues, but I’ve had problems carrying pregnancies long-term,” she said.
“When it wasn’t happening as I hoped and I wasn’t getting younger, I decided to explore my options. Surrogacy became the best path for me, and I’m very happy with my decision.”
Addressing her daughter’s paternity, Ini disclosed that the child’s father is alive but uninvolved.
“I’m raising her alone,” she explained.
“There was no man in my life at the time, but I wanted to have a child. There are different ways to go about that.”
Ini also highlighted the emotional weight of choosing surrogacy, stating, “It’s not something people just wake up and decide to do. For me, it wasn’t a fancy way out—I’ve always wanted to be a mother.”
The actress revealed she had undergone IVF treatments and experienced six miscarriages before welcoming her daughter via surrogacy in 2021.
“I got married at the age of 26 because I thought that at 31 I would have been done with childbearing and I would have retired and faced my career.
“But life didn’t pan out that way, I tried. I have had over six miscarriages. It wasn’t a fancy way out for me, I’ve always wanted to do this,” she added.
Ini Edo was previously married to businessman Philip Ehiagwina in 2008, but the union ended in 2014 without children.
