Grammy-winning singer Damini Ogulu, popularly known as Burna Boy, has reacted to the release of his controversial colleague Speed Darlington, from Kuje Prison.

Darlington had been arrested and detained following accusations he made against Burna Boy, alleging an illicit connection with troubled American rapper and music executive Diddy.

His release on Tuesday came weeks after being granted bail.

In a now-deleted Instagram post, Burna Boy issued a stern warning to Darlington, threatening to have him returned to custody if he “misbehaved” again.

He wrote, “If you like misbehave again, you’ll go back to where you come from! And this time around, there will be no mercy! Don’t m*ss with ODG.”

The feud between the two artistes began in October 2024 when Darlington mocked Burna Boy’s association with Diddy, leading to his first arrest that same month. He was released shortly afterward.

Darlington’s diss track, ‘Baby Oil,’ was released shortly after, gaining traction on Spotify Nigeria.

He demanded an apology from Burna Boy’s mother and N12 million in damages. The conflict escalated further, leading to Darlington’s re-arrest on November 27, 2024, during a performance in Owerri.

Darlington’s time in detention was prolonged despite a court order issued on December 23, 2024, mandating his release or appearance in court within 48 hours.

His legal team alleged police defiance of the order, causing him to spend both the festive season and the New Year in custody.

On January 6, 2025, the court reiterated its order for his release, allowing his lawyer to act as surety. However, efforts to secure his bail were reportedly obstructed by the police the following day.

On January 15, the court granted bail under stringent conditions, including a N20 million bond, a Level 10 civil servant as surety and the submission of his passport and photographs.

Darlington remained in Kuje Prison until the conditions were met.

Darlington’s trial is scheduled for March 18, 2025.

Meanwhile, he has filed a N300 million lawsuit against the Inspector-General of Police, alleging a violation of his fundamental rights.

The Federal High Court in Abuja has adjourned the case to January 27, following the IGP’s request for additional time to examine new evidence.
