The crisis in the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF), Wednesday morning, took a bizarre twist after Chris Giwa-led faction moved to appoint a substantive coach for the Super Eagles.
In a move sure to be dismissed by world football governing body, FIFA, the disgruntled group settled for Salisu Yusuf, the only indigenous coach in a three-man shortlist which also had Frenchman, Paul Le Guen and Belgian, Tom Saintfiet.
Yusuf, 54, was rumoured to have rejected the proposal by the main NFF body to work with any of the foreign coaches.
And the former Kano Pillars gaffer has now been handed the permanent role by the opposing faction who one time appointed a dead referee to officiate a league game.
He will be assisted by Imama Amakapabo while Ike Shorunmu will serve as the goalkeeper trainer.
Former Super Eagles midfielder, Emeka Ezeugo, was appointed team coordinator, while former FCT SWAN chairman, Victor Ireole, will serve as the team’s media officer.
The body claim the new coaches and officials will be unveiled next week in a glamorous occasion in Abuja.
In a similar development, the board also approved committees to manage the different levels of the Nigerian leagues.
Sam Sam Jaja was appointed as chairman of the committee to manage the Nigeria Professional Football League (NPFL) while Debo Adeoye will head the female section.
Abdulazeez Mahammed and Iss Umar were appointed chairmen of the Nigeria National and Nationwide Leagues.
The FIFA recognised NFF led by Amaju Pinnick is yet to make public its choice of coach.
