Businesswoman and socialite Aisha Achimugu has denied an online media report that she was arrested by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC).

In a statement released on Thursday through her media aide David Abakpa, Mrs. Achimugu dismissed the report as “fake news” and a “sponsored non-existing rumour” orchestrated by detractors attempting to tarnish her reputation.

The report, which circulated online under the headline “EFCC Arrests Flamboyant Socialite Aisha Achimugu”, alleged that the business mogul had been apprehended. Abakpa, however, clarified that Mrs. Achimugu is currently out of the country on a business trip, making the alleged arrest impossible.

“It is a lie sponsored by enemies! Aisha Achimugu has not been arrested or detained by the EFCC. This blatant lie is a reprehensible act of intentional defamation of character, designed to tarnish Dr. Achimugu’s impeccable reputation and drag Felak Concept Group’s image through the mud,” the statement read.

Abakpa emphasised that the EFCC, as a reputable organisation, had no involvement in the fabricated story and urged the public to disregard the report.

He reiterated that Achimugu remains a law-abiding Nigerian and respected figure both locally and internationally, known for her legitimate business dealings.

Mrs. Achimugu, who is the founder and managing director of the Abuja-based Felak Concept Group, has faced public scrutiny in the past. In 2015, she hosted a lavish seven-day celebration for her 50th birthday in Grenada, attended by high-profile guests, including Lagos State Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu.

Responding to criticism of the extravagant event, Achimugu was quoted by Premium Times as saying, “I really don’t give a hoot. I’m doing me; I’ve always done me, a happy soul, doing what makes me happy.”

The businesswoman, who holds a bachelor’s degree in accounting from the University of Jos, Nigeria, has publicly declared that she is committed to creating jobs for Nigerian youths through her ventures.

She recently unveiled a 30-day Ramadan feeding initiative as part of efforts in extending a helping hand to the needy during the fasting period.

QEDNG recalls that her husband, Sulaiman Achimugu, died in 2020 from COVID-19 complications.
