An impatient Arsenal fan has ripped into the club over Riyad Mahrez’s decision to sign a new long-term contract extension at Leicester City.
The Algerian midfielder was voted PFA Player of the Year after scoring 17 goals and 11 assists as Leicester emerged surprise Premier League winners.
He was highly tipped to move away from the King Power Stadium, with the 25-year-old admitting he’d be tempted for “two or three clubs”.
This and other signs prompted Arsenal fan, Asad Balal, to order a Gunner jersey with the winger’s name and no 26 printed at the back in July.
He was clearly confident that Arsene Wenger would swoop in to bring the former Le Havre man to the Emirates and even claimed to have inside information on the Algerian’s move to north London.
However, Balal was forced into an embarrassing backtrack on Wednesday after Mahrez signed a new four-year deal with the Foxes and he quickly took to Twitter to jokingly put his Arsenal no.26 shirt up for sale before deleting the tweet and saying he’s sending the shirt to a charity shop.

Balal believes it is so embarrassing to support Arsenal right now.
Mahrez…Vardy & Mustafi all rejected Arsenal … If that isn’t embarrassing for the club & all the fan base … I don’t know what is ????????????

He is mystified that the Gunners can’t attract star players even with a Champions League ticket while Manchester United – playing in the less fancied Europa League – are getting the biggest names in the sport.
