Short skirts are skirts with a hemline well above the knees, generally at mid-thigh level, normally no longer than 10 cm below the buttocks. A dress with such a hemline is called a mini-dress or a miniskirt dress. A micro-miniskirt or micro-skirt is a miniskirt with its hemline at the upper thigh.
Short skirts have existed for a long time and are very tempting to wear. Wearing a short skirt can go two ways: you either look cute and sexy in it or you look trashy.
Follow these five rules and you can rest easy knowing you are not committing a fashion faux pas.
- Look for short skirt with the perfect length
Not all women, or short skirts, are created equal, so it’s important that you find a short skirt with the perfect length for you. Your height and how long your legs are matter in finding the perfect length. You will want something long enough to not make you feel half naked but also short enough to showcase your legs and just the right amount of skin.
- Choose classy shoes
High heels are great with short skirts, especially if you’re petite and are trying to look a few inches taller. Go for flats, sandals and even flip flops if you just want an easy, casual look wearing short skirts. Thigh high boots are not advisable on short skirts. If you must wear boots with a short skirt, go for ankle boots.
- Shave your legs
One of the reasons why we love wearing short skirts so much is because we get to showcase our gorgeous legs in them. Not shaving your legs is a huge minus. When wearing a short skirt, your legs become the focus of your whole outfit, so making sure that your legs look and feel smooth is a must.
- Put on the right underwear
Another important thing to keep in mind when wearing short skirts is the undergarments you wear underneath it. The wind might blow your skirt in different directions, your skirt might get caught up in something, and other things may happen that might catch you off guard and leave you in embarrassment. But you can certainly prevent these by wearing underwear that provides adequate coverage.
- Be mindful with slits
A misplaced or a deep slit on a short skirt can make or break the look. If your short skirt has a slit, ensure that it is not too high, or it can look like you’re exposing too much. And you certainly don’t want that!
