The Nigeria Police at a press conference in Abuja on Monday paraded nine alleged kidnappers of Margaret, wife of Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) Governor, Godwin Emefiele.
Mrs Emefiele was kidnapped along the Benin-Agbor Road on Thursday, September 29.
She was rescued the day after, and detectives of the Inspector-General of Police Special Monitoring and Intelligence Team sent to smoke out her kidnappers.
Monday’s parade of suspect confirmed media reports that nine people were arrested in connection with the crime.
Among the nine arrested are two serving soldiers and one that was dismissed from service.
The police gave their identity as follows:
- Lance Corporal Musa Maidabra ‘M’ 28 years
- Lance Corporal Edwin George ‘M’
- Ernest Anthony Uduefe ‘M’ 32 years (dismissed Soldier)
- Mohammed Abubakar A.K.A Dogo ‘M’ 29 years (Gang Leader)
- Mohammed Musa ‘M’ 26 years
- Mohammed Sule ‘M’ 26 years
- Ibrahim Abdullahi ‘M’ 30 years
- Aliyu Musa ‘M’ 30 years
- Mohammed Yusuf ‘M’ 36 years
The CBN governor had earlier expressed gratitude to God, President Muhammadu Buhari and security agencies for the prompt rescue of his wife.
“I am grateful security agencies for their gallantry in bringing my wife back home within 24 hours in compliance with the directive of President Muhammadu Buhari,” Emefiele said in a statement on Saturday, October 1.
“My gratitude to the Delta and Edo State governments, friends and well wishers who, through their actions, prayers and goodwill, helped to bring this harrowing experience to a joyful end.
“I reaffirm my resolve to continue to serve the nation diligently with all his heart without any fear of intimidation.”
