Nigeria winger, Victor Moses, proved the unlikely hero once again as Chelsea condemned defending Premier League champions Leicester to a fourth consecutive away defeat with a dominant display on Saturday.
The Blues were ahead inside seven minutes when Nemanja Matic flicked on Eden Hazard’s corner for Diego Costa to smash home.
A David Luiz free-kick struck the post, before Pedro played in Hazard, who rounded Kasper Schmeichel to slot in to the delight of the home fans.
Luiz hit his own post when clearing a cross, but Moses’ finish after a one-two with substitute Nathaniel Chalobah completed the scoring.
The Nigeria international, who has endured neglect at Stamford Bridge since signing from Wigan Athletic in August 2012, was injured in the 2-0 victory at Hull City on October 1.
A hamstring injury towards the end of that game prevented him from joining up with the Nigeria squad which defeated Zambia 2-1 away in a 2018 World Cup qualifier on Sunday, October 9.
The 25-year-old repaid Coach Antonio Conte’s confidence on Saturday with a goal that added gloss to an emphatic group performance.
Super Eagles skipper, Mikel Obi, once again failed to make the squad.
Mikel’s deputy, Ahmed Musa, lasted for 70 minutes but did very little to help the Foxes.
Leicester, who left Riyad Mahrez on the bench for the first time in 36 league games, failed to register a shot on target as they struggled to cope against Chelsea’s aggressive pressing and quick passing.
Defeat leaves Claudio Ranieri’s side with eight points from their first eight games – the joint second lowest haul by a defending Premier League champion, along with Chelsea’s team of last season.
The Stamford Bridge Fans, on the other hand, will find it hard not to be incredibly impressed by their team’s performance – especially after what they witnessed over 2015-16.
Next up for Chelsea is a trip to Old Trafford to face Manchester United now managed former Blues coach Jose Mourinho.
