The Beat 99.9FM’s sister station, The Beat 103.6FM based in London, on Saturday, emerged best radio station at the 14th annual Urban Music Awards which took place at The Porchester in London.
Formerly known as The Bang Radio, London’s first urban community radio station, was renamed The Beat 103.6FM on March 28, 2016, and has since been providing listeners in North-West London the freshest urban music around the clock.
The 14th annual Urban Music Award was kicked off by a 14-year-old disc jockey, DJ Krish.
Other winners at the ceremony include Drake (best international act), Craig David (best pop act & best male act), Jonas Blue (best producer), Muyiwa and Riversongz “Eko Ile” (best gospel acts) and Izzie Gibbs (best new comer) amongst others.
Tiwa Savage, Wizkid, Fuse ODG, Yemi Alade, Olamide and Eugy all lost in the best African act category to Mista Silva.
Past winners at the Urban Music Awards include Sade, Nico and Vinz, Pharrell Williams, Clean Bandits, Rihanna, Bruno Mars, Fuse ODG and Leona Lewis.
The Urban Music Awards is set to launch in France in 2017 with an imminent awards show scheduled to take place in Paris.
It will also launch Africstar – a global continent-wide talent for Africa – to broadcast across 30 countries on the continent.
