A trader, Victor Edet, 32, on Friday appeared before an Ikeja Chief Magistrates’ Court, Lagos for allegedly raping an eight-year-old girl
The accused, who lives in Okokomaiko, a suburb of Lagos, is being tried for defilement.
The prosecutor, Simeon Inuoha, told the court that the offence was committed at the accused residence.
Mr. Inuoha said that the accused invited his victim, who happened to be his neighbour’s daughter, into his room.
“The accused was caught fingering the victim’s vagina,” the inspector said.
The offence contravened Section 135 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2011.
Edet pleaded not guilty to the charge.
The chief magistrate, B. O. Osunsanmi, granted the accused to a bail of N300,000 with two sureties in like sum and adjourned the case to February 13 for mention.
