Journalists in a popular newspaper headquartered in Ogba, Lagos have been terribly hit by the freezing of Mavrodi Mondial Movement (MMM) accounts in Nigeria, Qed.ng has learnt.
A source in the media organisation owned by a prominent politician told this medium that workers took to the Ponzi scheme to alleviate the pain of over 15 months cumulated unpaid salaries.
News that all MMM accounts have been put in pause mode because the request from those getting help (GH) is more than what is coming from those providing help (PH) sent shock around the newsroom on Tuesday morning.
Many staff of the company were said to have angrily demanded explanation from their colleagues (guiders) who convinced them to sign on to the scheme.
“MMM has been their only succor since salary stopped coming,” the source told Qed.ng.
“More than 50% of them are into it and are ready to defend it with the last drop of their blood.”
This online newspaper gathered that many staff signed on to the scheme after an account clerk reportedly made N90,000 from a N300,000 investment.
“In fact, two graphic artists are MMM’s biggest marketers/promoters here,” the source added.
With the accounts frozen till January 12, many are now faced with the prospect of bleak Christmas and New Year celebrations.
