Popular Yoruba Actor, Femi Adebayo, has taken a veiled dig at his colleague, Olaniyi Afonja, popularly known as Sanyeri, over the latter’s tribal marks.
The twice married Adebayo delivered the punch via a picture he posted on Instagram on Monday.
Sporting artificial tribal marks on a movie set, he captions the picture “time heals all wounds but not Yoruba tribal marks”.
He then tagged the Mama Do Good with the message “A big shout out to my friend Sanyeri”.
Sanyeri took the joke in good faith and posted an image of the two men together with the message “All work and no play makes Sir San a dull man.”
The Yoruba tribal marks are scarifications which are specific identification and beautification marks designed on the face or body of the Yoruba people.
They are part of the Yoruba culture and are usually inscribed on the body by burning or cutting of the skin during childhood.
The tradition is becoming extinct though.
In Oyo State, for example, the prohibition of tribal marks is an integral part of the state Child Rights Law, a law that imposes a fine or one-month imprisonment or both for violation.
According to the law “No person shall tattoo or make a skin mark or cause any tattoo or skin mark to be made on a child”.
