The January transfer break is gradually winding down.
With barely five days left before the market eventually shuts down, we take a look at three Super Eagles players who are desperately in need of a new club.
- Odion Ighalo
Odion Ighalo will definitely be weighing his options after falling out of favour at Watford. The 27-year-old has struggled to replicate last season’s exploits in which he notched 18 goals – scoring just once in the league this term. Fellow Premier League side, West Brom, allegedly tabled a bid for the Nigerian which was rejected by the Hornets. With Walter Mazzari already signing another attacker, Mauro Zarate from Fiorentina, it’s just a matter of time before Ighalo leaves Vicarage Road.
- Elderson Echiejile
Super Eagles first choice left-back, Elderson Echiejile, is facing an uncertain future at French Ligue 1 table-toppers, Monaco. Echiejile returned to the Stade Louis II after a disappointing loan spell in Belgium. The 29-year-old has been deemed surplus to requirement by coach Leonardo Jardim – evidently is the fact that he’s yet to feature for the club this season. Echiejile, who still has two years left on his current contract, will most certainly fancy another loan move away from the club.
- William Troost-Ekong
William Troost-Ekong might have established himself as Nigeria’s undisputed choice at centre-back alongside Leon Balogun, but it’s an entirely different scenario at his club Gent. Troost-Ekong returned to the Belgian side after a remarkable loan spell at Haugesund where he even became the skipper of the team. But ever since he rejoined his parent club, the 23-year-old has only featured once and could do with another move away from the club.
