The former Nigerian High Commissioner to Ghana and immediate past Minister of State for Defence polled 346 votes behind winner Jimi Agbaje who got 434.
Speaking with the media after the exercise, Obanikoro declared: “The whole electoral exercise was a sham.”
He spoke further: “We will fight it and ensure that the right thing is done.
“I have never seen an election were ballot papers are counted before sorting
“The whole process was compromised and predetermined
“As far as we are concerned, there was no election today. Hence no result
“No results should have been counted the moment number of votes cast exceeded number of accredited delegates
“Until the necessary corrections are made, we will not rest.” ~ Senator Obanikoro.”
An unspecified number of people were injured in the protest that ensued before and after the results were announced.
It took the presence of heavily armed policemen to contain the violence which erupted at the poling centre in the Oregun area of Ikeja.
Addressing his supporters later at this campaign office in GRA, Ikeja Obanikoro said: “It is not over yet. Go home and do not take the laws into your hands.
“Be rest assured that we will fight this to a logical conclusion.”
