Ex-Super Eagles coach, Samson Siasia, has been overlooked for the vacant coaching position of one of South Africa’s biggest clubs, Orlando Pirates.
Pirates are four-time Premier Soccer League (PSL) champions but have not come close to winning the title in the last four years.
Siasia, whose last role was with the Dream Team VI, was alleged to be one of the favourites to replace Muhsin Ertugral as head coach of the Buccaneers.
Rather, the Johannesburg-based side settled for Swede, Kjell Jonevret, who was offered a three-year contract on Monday.
What this means is that two Nigerians, James Okwousa and Emmanuel Daniel, will have to work with the European instead of their countryman.
Siasia, however, could still get the country’s biggest job as he is in the running to manage the Bafana Bafana.
Also, the former Nantes striker is in the running to be named manager of another African side, Rwanda.
Jonevret’s immediate task is to restore Pirates’ dwindling season which has seen them slump to 10th on the log.
His first assignment is a home game against Polokwane City at Orlando Stadium on Saturday.
