A 44-year-old man, Abdulroheem Abdulhamed, who allegedly defiled a six-year-old girl, was on Wednesday docked at a Surulere Chief Magistrates’ Court in Lagos.
Prosecutor, Sgt. Anthonia Osayande, told the court that the accused committed the offence at his residence at 49, Akinola Road, Aboru, Iyana-Ipaja area of Lagos State, at about 1 p.m. on March 20, 2017.
Osayande said that the accused, who resides in same premises with the parents of the girl, sent her on an errand and on her return, took her into his apartment, closed the door and assaulted her sexually.
She said that the victim reported to her mother what the accused did to her and he was arrested.
The prosecutor said that the offence contravened Section 137 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2011.
The accused, however, pleaded not guilty to the charge.
Chief Magistrate, Ipaye Nwachukwu, granted bail to the accused in the sum of N100, 000, with two sureties in like sum.
Mrs Nwachukwu ordered that one of the sureties must be a civil servant on not less than grade level 14 while the other must be a property owner.
She also directed that the sureties should provide evidence of tax payment and have their addresses verified.
The case was adjourned until June 8 pending advice from the Department of Public Prosecutions.
