The Kano State Emirate Council on Monday debunked claims that the Emir, Muhammadu Sanusi II, spent N6 billion of the emirate’s fund since his assumption of the throne.
Walin Kano, Bashir Wali, the senior council official in charge of finance, told journalists at a press conference in Kano on Monday that the emirate has only spent N3.4 billion since Sanusi ascended the throne in June 2014.
Wali, who gave details on the expenditure of the council, also added that Sanusi inherited N2.9 billion (exactly N2.895,165,43.77) and not N4 billion as reported by some media outlets.
It would be recalled that the Kano State Public Complaints and Anti-Corruption Commission opened an investigation into accounts of Sanusi II and his Kano Emirate Council over allegations of questionable expenditures.
The 55-year-old emir has recently exchanged words with the Governor of Zamfara State, Abdulaziz Yari.
In response to the emir’s criticism of Yari’s statement on the outbreak of meningitis in Zamfara, the latter accused Sanusi of hypocrisy, saying that he rides in Rolls Royce while his subjects are faced with poverty.
