President Muhammadu Buhari has opted to work from home, the Federal Government has announced.
Minister of Information and Culture, Lai Mohammed, made the announcement on Wednesday after the Federal Executive Council (FEC) meeting ended without Buhari in attendance.
The minister, who explained that the 74-year-old needed rest, said, “We just concluded the Federal Executive Council meeting, I am sure you noticed that the president was not there. He was not there because he asked that he be allowed to rest and asked the vice president to preside.
“And he will be working from home. He has asked all his files to be taken to him in the house. He will be working from home today.”
Mohammed added that Vice President Yemi Osinbajo, who is expected to report to the president daily on official duties, will visit Buhari at home later in the day.
Buhari has been absent at the last two FEC meetings.
His absence from the public has raised speculations concerning the state of his health, especially after his prolonged health vacation to the United Kingdom.
The recent expulsion of a Punch journalist from Aso Rock over reports on the president’s health heightened the speculations.
Qed.ng recalls that Buhari travelled to London on January 19 for what was intended to be a 10-day medical vacation.
He, however, stayed longer to rest on the advice of his doctor, returning to Nigeria on March 10.
Buhari was last seen in public on Friday during the Jumat service at the Presidential Villa in Abuja.
