State House correspondent of Channels Television, Chukwuma Onuekwusi, has died at a private hospital in Abuja.
The news organisation confirmed that the 55-year-old died on Tuesday morning.
Onuekwusi cut his journalism teeth with the Imo Broadcasting Corporation Owerri Imo state, as announcer, reporter and newscaster on radio and television.
He joined Channels Television in 1998 and covered a variety of stories, including reporting extensively on the elections that brought former President Olusegun Obasanjo and the late Umaru Musa Yar’Adua to power. He also reported immediate past President Goodluck Jonathan’s election victory.
Prolific in news casting, the 2001 Nigeria Media Merit Award (NMMA) nominee also presented programmes like Politics Today and covered the Abia bureau for two years.
He had a diploma in Mass Communication from the University of Nigeria, Nsukka and attended journalism courses in Nigeria and the BBC.
He is survived by wife and children.
