Gunmen suspected to be militants stormed Lagos State Model College, Igbonla in Epe on Thursday morning, taking away six students.
The invasion, which took place while the student were observing morning assembly, comes barely one week after gunmen reportedly wrote the school to notify the management they would strike.
A similar fate befell the school in October last year when two teachers and four students were kidnapped by militants who only released them after they were reportedly paid N20million as ransom.
It was gathered that Thursday’s gunmen were clad in police uniforms and some of them were hooded.
The Nation reports that sources said the militant have maintained visible presence in Epe for over two weeks.
Residents said for about three days, they have suffered continuous strikes from the gunmen, adding that two people including a poultry farmer, who notified soldiers of their activities, have been killed.
They were said to have been patrolling the waterways and even challenged security operatives to a gun duel in a bit to distract them and waste their ammunition.
However, the operatives, residents said did not give to the militants display and successfully foiled their plot to kidnap some students of the Lagos State Model College on Wednesday.
Undeterred, the gunmen said to be clad in black attires and hood stormed the school on Thursday around 6am and took away the principals and students.
Parents besieged the school after news of the kidnapping broke, insisting on taking their children home.
Senator Gbenga Ashafa, representing Lagos East at the Senate, and Wale Raji, representing Epe Constituency at the House of Representatives, reported the kidnapping at their respective chambers of the National Assembly on Thursday.
