Nigeria’s sole survivor on the continent, Rivers United, are on the brink of exit from the CAF Confederations Cup following a shocking 0 – 2 loss at home to Club Africain.
After an impressive victory over Ugandan side, KCCA, about a fortnight ago, the expectation was that the Port Harcourt-based side will maintain its unbeaten home run.
But surprisingly, the Stanley Eguma led team crashed like a pack of cards on Sunday at the Yakubu Gowon Stadium.
An own goal from skipper, Austin Festus and a beautiful strike from Maher Haddad was enough for the Tunisian giants to see off their hosts.
The defeat is Rivers’ third in five games in the competition and their first in 25 continental home matches.

Rivers now face an uphill task to progress to the next round after garnering just six points from a possible 15.
KCCA and Club Africain lead the pack with nine, while FUS Rabat is tied with the Nigerian side.
Next up for the club is a return leg against Africain before facing Rabat at home.
