The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) on Monday released the timetable for the recall of Senator Dino Melaye.
Melaye, 43, represents Kogi West Senatorial District.
About 52 per cent of registered voters in the lawmaker’s constituency are believed to have signed a petition for his recall.
According to the timetable released by INEC, the recall process will commence on July 10 with a notice of verification at the electoral body’s office in Lokoja, Kogi State.
July 31 will be the last day of submission of application for interested observers and August 10 will be the last day for submission of verification agents of member sought to be recalled and petitioners.
In addition, a stakeholders meeting will be held on August 15 and the verification will be held on August 19.
Melaye, who blames his travails on Governor Yahaya Bello of Kogi, had filed a suit at a Federal High Court in Abuja through his lawyer, Mike Ozekhome, challenging the bid to recall him.
Ozekhome, a Senior Advocate of Nigeria, thereafter, wrote to INEC informing it of the suit and asking it not to commence the recall process until the matter is heard.
INEC however said instituting a suit alone is not enough to stop it.
