President Muhammadu Buhari on Wednesday hosted the national female basketball team, D’Tigress, before the commencement of the weekly Federal Executive Council meeting at the Presidential Villa.
It was the first time the President was attending the cabinet meeting in five months due to illness.
D’Tigress beat Senegal 65-48 on Sunday to win the 2017 FIBA Women’s AfroBasket tournament in Mali and qualify for the 2018 FIBA Women’s Basketball World Cup in Spain.
Buhari was shown holding the golden trophy won by the team and smiling alongside the green-clad team.
He was joined by Vice President Yemi Osinbajo and Minister of Youth and Sport, Solomon Dalung, and other members of the Federal Executive Council in photographs issued by the Presidency.
Buhari, while hosting the players, announced cash gifts of N1 million each for members of the team and N500,000 each to the team’s officials.
