Nigeria may be ranked fifth by the latest FIFA Rankings, but CAF President, Ahmad Ahmad, believes the Super Eagles is the continent’s strongest team.
The Eagles were the first side from the Africa to book a place at next year’s World Cup in Russia after beating Zambia 1-0.
Despite the country’s remarkable run to the Mundial, the world’s soccer governing ruling body still rated them below Tunisia, Senegal, Egypt and DR Congo.
But Ahmad, currently in Lagos to meet with the country’s football stakeholders has faulted FIFA’s October rankings.
“No doubt, Nigeria is the strongest African team going to Russia and we expect so much from the Super Eagles,” the Madagascan was quoted by African Football on Wednesday.
“Amaju (Pinnick) has been spot-on in at least two major decisions this year: to support the change at CAF and to get the Nigerian fraternity to work assiduously towards Nigeria’s qualification for the 2018 FIFA World Cup.”
