Gov. Seriake Dickson of Bayelsa on Thursday gave three members of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) N250, 000 each for their exemplary service to the state.
Dickson gave the financial award during the passing out ceremony of the 2016 Batch “B” Stream 1 of the scheme in Yenagoa.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the three corps members who received the state awards were Oko Inya, Michael Isibhenhen and Atondu Thomas.
The governor, who was represented by Mr Collins Concordia, Commissioner for Youths Development, commended the corps members for their contributions to the development of the state and nation at large.
He further tasked corps members to be self-reliant and make good use of their experience during the service year.
Mrs Loto Bolade, NYSC State Coordinator, said that a total of 1, 418 corps members in Stream 1 were successfully discharged from the service.
Bolade said that 17 corps members were punished for various disciplinary issues including absconding and absenteeism.
According to her, 10 of those sanctioned will repeat the service year, while seven others will have their service extended by various months as punishment.
She urged the corps members to be committed and dedicated to duty and continue to be good ambassadors of the NYSC scheme after passing out.
The coordinator said that three corps received the state honours award.
“Four other corps members got Chairman’s honour award, while five received the Coordinator commendation letter,’’ she said.
