Super Eagles coach, Gernot Rohr, is enjoying the on-field rivalry between Elderson Echiejele and Ola Aina for the team’s left-back role.
Echiejele, 29, has somewhat made the left-side of defence his own for over six years.
But that could likely change owing to the arrival of Chelsea youngster, Aina, to the national fold.
And in the absence of the injured Sivaspor man, the 21-year-old slotted and impressed on his full debut for his fatherland against Algeria.
With both players likely to be on the flight to Russia, Rohr is pleased to see both compete for who gets the nod to start.
When asked about the prospect of Echiejele losing his spot to the Hull City star, the Franco-German replied as quoted by CompleteSport on Monday: “It’s good for the competition for Elderson Echiejile when you want to progress you need two good players in each position.”
“I’m happy we already have this friendly against Argentina. It is wonderful to play against some of the best players in the world.
“We are unbeaten in the qualifiers but now we need to work harder ahead of Tuesday. But it’s going to be tough because we have just two days to prepare for it.”
Rohr will once again have a closer at Aina when Nigeria take on Argentina on Tuesday.
