Nigeria Customs Service

The Nigerian Customs Service (NCS) on Thursday handed over 52.2 Kilogrammes of Indian hemp intercepted along Illela-Sokoto road to the officials of National Drugs Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) in Sokoto State.

Handing over the items to the NDLEA, the custom’s Controller, Mr Nasir Ahmad, said the illicit substances which were carefully concealed with wrapped polythene bags, were intercepted on Friday, November 10.

Ahmad said the substances confirmed as Cannabis Sativa popularly called marijuana, were hidden in bales of second-hand clothes which were among the contraband items.

He said the substances were contained in 82 wraps in paw-paw shape, while one suspect was arrested in connection with the offence.

Receiving the items, the state NDLEA Commander, Alhaji Musbahu Idris said the illicit substances were imported from Benin Republic and Ghana into the country.

The commander said the substances would be subjected to laboratory test and measured at NDLEA office while suspect would be prosecuted after investigation.

Idris commended the customs service for intercepting the illicit drugs stressing that this was not the first time the service was achieving such a feat.

He described the action of the NCS as an indication of the synergy that existed between the service and the NDLEA in the state.

“We will investigate this matter to the fullest and those behind this nefarious act will be dealt with,” Idris said.
