Super Eagles new kid on the block, Tyronne Ebuehi, has revealed that teammate, William Troost-Ekong, made him choose Nigeria instead of the Netherlands.
Born in the Dutch nation, the 21-year-old had the opportunity to represent the Oranjes at full international level.
He even turned down his first invite to Nigeria claiming he needed some time to settle into his club ADO Den Haag.
Now capped twice by the Super Eagles, including a phenomenal showing against Argentina last week, Ebuehi has made it clear that Troost-Ekong helped him make that decision.
Troost-Ekong himself was born in the Netherlands to a Nigerian father and Dutch mother.
He featured for their various youth teams before switching allegiance to Nigeria in 2015.
“He (Troost-Ekong) is an international and now plays at Bursaspor, I played well at ADO and he approached me,” Ebuehi was quoted by All Nigeria Soccer on Monday.
“I was shocked by that, why do they want a right back from ADO Den Haag, where they have footballers who play in the top leagues in Europe.
“All of a sudden you play against world stars, normally you see them on TV or you play them with FIFA on the computer.”
Ebuehi could cap an improbable year with a spot in Gernot Rohr’s team to Russia.
