An auto mechanic, Samson David, 20, is to spend a year in Jail for stealing a Jeep valued at N600,000 by an order of an Ikeja Magistrates’ Court.
David was on Wednesday sentenced by Mrs. O. A Gbajumo, the Magistrate, without an option of fine after pleading guilty to stealing the car.
The magistrate ruled that the convict should cool his feet at Kirikiri Prison in Lagos.
“This will serve as deterrent to others,’’ she said.
The convict, who resides at Alagbado area, suburb of Lagos was tried for stealing.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that David was arraigned on a -one count charge on November 8 and pleaded guilty to the charge.
Earlier, the prosecutor, Sgt. Micheal Unah insisted that the offence was committed at Shoronke St., Alagbado, suburb of Lagos on September 28.
Unah said that the complainant, Mr. Akin Ogundele gave his Toyota Jeep to Alayo Mukaila, the convict’s boss, for repairs.
“The accused (now convict) stole the Jeep from his boss workshop and drove it away, but on the way, the jeep developed a fault and could not move.
“It was at the process while he was trying to fix it that he was caught by someone who knows of the missing Jeep,” he said.
Unah said that the convict was arrested while fixing the car and was brought to the police station.
The offence contravened section 287 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015.
