Former President Olusegun Obasanjo Wednesday scored a brace as he led the Olusegun Obasanjo Presidential Library (OOPL) Team in a football match against the Ogun State Executive Team.
The match, which was organised as part of activities marking Obasanjo’s 78th birthday, took place at the Moshood Abiola Stadium, Abeokuta, with Governor Ibikunle Amosun leading the state team.
Final score in the five-aside match which lasted 60 minutes was 2-1 in favour of the former President’s team.
Amosun was named the Most Valuable Player of the match, while Obasanjo won the Golden Boot award and Akin Mabogunje received award of Best Goalkeeper of the encounter.
Speaking to journalists after the match, Obasanjo who was the captain of his team expressed satisfaction over the game.
The man with the number 78 jersey said sport is a necessary exercise for both the old and the young.
“I am satisfied and fulfilled, even at my age I cherish sport, because it is relevant to health and we should all endeavour to engage in sporting activities,” he said.
