In a bid to avoid the drop, ex-Super Eagles forward, Emmanuel Emenike, was signed alongside compatriot, Oghenekaro Etebo, on loan by Las Palmas in January.
The 30-year-old was expected to lift the Canary club out of relegation waters with goals.
Due to his pedigree, it was all but a mild task.
Emenike has proven a fearless goal poacher for Nigeria and every club he kitted for.
However, the ex-West Ham star’s Spanish turned sour after the club discovered he was unfit.
“An MRI scan was conducted the same night which indicated the presence of an osteochondral lesion at the level of the internal femoral condyle and swelling of the internal lateral ligament,” Las Palmas explained after his arrival.
While Etebo worked his socks off to keep Paco Jemez’s team safe, Emenike remained on the sideline.
Palmas was ultimately relegated after a pitiful 4-0 defeat at home to Alaves on Sunday.
Jemez’s side have garnered just 21 points from 34 games and are 13 short of Levante in 17th with only four matches left to play.
Most likely, Emenike may not feature until his deal terminates at the end of the season.
He will return to Greece with zero appearance for the Canary club.
