Chidiogo Akunyili, daughter of the late former Director-General of the National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC), Prof Dora Akunyili, on Friday remembered her mother four years after her death.
Prof Akunyili died on July 7, 2014 after a long battle with cancer.
She was aged 59.
Chidiogo took to Instagram to commemorate the fourth anniversary of her mother’s death with photo of the two striking a similar pose.
“It’s been four years since your body left this world. It’s been every day that your spirit remains strong. Thank you for inspiring me to write your story.
Thank you for all the ways you guide and love us, your children that are so many more than your biological ones,” she wrote.
Chidiogo got married to Canadian Andrew Parr on Saturday.
The wedding ceremony took place at Madonna Catholic Church, Agulu, Anambra state.
Her mother ran for election as senator for Anambra Central on the platform All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) in April 2011 but was defeated by Chris Ngige of the Action Congress of Nigeria (ACN).
Chidiogo, a multilinguist, is the fourth daughter of Akunyili, who served as Nigeria’s minister of information under late President Umaru Yar’Adua.
Chidiogo speaks seven languages including Chinese, English, French, German, Igbo, Italian and Spanish.
She has been named in the 100 most influential Young Africans’ by Africa Youth Awards and 100 most Influential Nigerians by Avance Media.
