Kylian Mbappe made French football history as his goal saw him become the youngest player to score for Les Bleus at a major tournament as they edged to a 1-0 win over Peru.
Aged just 19-years-old, the PSG starlet scored what proved to be the decisive goal in the 34th minute.
It’s now two wins in two for Didier Deschamps’ side at the 2018 World Cup and they advance to the last 16 with a game to spare in Group C.
Meanwhile, it’s the end of the road for Peru as they have lost their first two group games, putting second-placed Denmark (who have four points) out of reach.
Off the back of an unfortunate defeat to the Danes in their first game, Peru came racing out the blocks at the beginning, but it was France who was better at producing more clear-cut opportunities.
Paul Pogba, who scored the winning goal in France’s victory over Australia in their opening match gave Pedro Gallese something to worry about when the midfielder’s long-range effort bounced narrowly wide.
Moments later, Rafael Varane headed Antoine Griezmann’s corner wide before Griezmann’s half-volley forced Gallese into a save after the Atletico Madrid man linked up with Olivier Giroud.
Paolo Guerrero then missed a huge chance to give Peru the lead on 30 minutes – the striker found a yard on Samuel Umtiti but could only shoot straight at Hugo Lloris.
And Les Bleus ensured Guerrero and co would rue that miss, when Mbappe broke the deadlock five minutes later after Giroud’s blocked effort, fell kindly for the teenager who tapped the ball into an empty net.
Ricardo Gareca’s men came out strongly after the break and Pedro Aquino was unfortunate not to get Peru an equaliser but his crisp strike from distance struck the post.
