Ghanaian actor, John Dumelo, has responded to critics who accused him of idolatry after he shared a picture of himself touching the feet of a statue representing Jesus Christ.
In a post to Instagram on Monday, the 34-year-old made an effort to educate his followers on why he shared the picture.
He stated that his actions were solely on his faith as a Christian. He shared a passage from the bible to buttress his point.
“I usually don’t respond to negative comments on Instagram but these set of comments need clarification. I posted a picture of myself touching the feet of a statue of Christ in a church in Montreal.
“Some people said it’s idol worshipping. Some said it’s blasphemy and others too said it’s occultism. If we all turn our Bibles to Matthew 9:20–22, it’s talks about a woman touching the robe of Jesus to be healed. She said ‘If I can just touch his robe, I will be healed’. That was her faith. And her faith healed her,” he wrote.
John was born and raised in the Catholic faith. He has featured in television series such as Sun City and About To Wed, he also features in a movie titled The King is Mine, where he played the role of a King in 2008.
Since then, he has acted in over 80 movies with elites like Ramsey Noah, Omotola Jalade Ekeinde, Ini Edo, Jackie Appiah, Majid Michel and Nadia Buari.
