Former Governor of Jigawa State, Sule Lamido, on Monday visited former President Olusegun Obasanjo and sought his support for his presidential ambition.
Lamido, whose meeting with the former President at his Abeokuta presidential residence lasted for almost two hours, later told journalists that there were despair and poverty across the nation, which called for urgent intervention.
The former governor said that was why he would be contesting the presidency in 2019. He, however, added that before taking such plunge he had to consult Obasanjo whom he described as his “father” for advice and support.
“In Nigeria, when they say who is Baba’s (Obasanjo’s) son, they say it is Sule Lamido. And as a result of this, I have only come to my father to seek guidance and as well talk about Nigeria, and to still tap from his wisdom about Nigeria,” he said.
The former governor expressed his happiness at the gale of defections to the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), arguing that “in a political party what you need is followership and when people are coming into your own party, you should be happy and even celebrate.”
