Award-winning music superstar, Tiwa Savage, has spoken for the first time about Ciara’s sampling of her song.
Ciara released the single ‘Freak Me’ last week which features Nigerian music star, Tekno.
It was reported that Tiwa Savage was left unhappy when a large portion of her song ‘Before Nko’ released in 2016 features in the song.
Although the ‘Standing Ovation’ singer was listed on the song’s credits and Ciara acknowledged her in a post on Twitter.
Shout out to @TiwaSavage on the inspiration and sample used in #FreakMe! She’s a beast! I fell in love with the melody when I first heard it in Africa 3 years ago ❤️💃🏽. So good. #AfroWave

Despite this, a section of Nigerians on social media insisted that the American singer did not take permission for the sampling.
In an interview with SoundCity FM on Tuesday, Tiwa Savage stated that she is not at liberty to discuss the matter when as she was asked to clarify the incident.
“I’m not at liberty to discuss it right now.”
She went on to say she has “written for other international artistes before but they haven’t sampled my record”.
When asked about her relationship with Yemi Alade, the ‘Lova Lova’ singer said, “there’s no bad vibe between us”.
“Every time we see each other, it’s just a mutual respect we have for each other and that’s not be trying to be political about it,” she added. “It’s definitely it’s just a mutual respect.”
