Nigerian music stars, Tiwa Savage and Simi, are set to battle in the best female in Western Africa category at the 2018 All Africa Music Awards (AFRIMA).
The nominees list for the awards was unveiled on Tuesday at a press conference held at Eko Hotels & Suites, Lagos.
Others nominated in the category are Angelique Kidjo from Benin Republic, Becca from Ghana, Josey from Cote d’Ivoire, Aya Nakamura from Mali and Viviane Chidid from Senegal.
Simi was nominated for her hit single, ‘Joromi’, which she released in September 2017. In the song she sings about giving out greenlight to that crush she longs to have as her lover.
Tiwa Savage was nominated for her song ‘Ma Lo’ featuring Wizkid and Spellz. The song was released in November 2017.
The Mavin singer will be looking to retain the award she won in the last edition where she fended off strong competition from Yemi Alade and Seyi Shay who were both left out in this year’s nomination.
Simi, who won the songwriter of the year award in the 2017 edition, will be looking to displace Tiwa Savage of her best female in Western Africa crown.
