The Lagos State Police Command on Sunday announced the arrest of four suspected members of the gang that invaded two banks in Ikorodu on Wednesday June 24.
It will be recalled that bandits stormed two banks in the Ogolonto area of the town and carted away huge sums of money in an operation that lasted over two hours.
Policemen whose station is directly opposite the banks could not come out to face the better harmed robbers.
Following the outcry over the robbery and condemnation of the men in uniform, Lagos Police Commissioner, Kayode Aderanti, vowed that his men would hunt down the robbers.
Aderanti, who ends his tenure in Lagos on Monday, also announced a N5 million reward for anyone with useful information.
It was gathered that soldiers of the Nigerian Army on a stop and search duty in Ondo State arrested one of the suspects.
The said suspect was on his way to his hometown in Okitikpupa, in Ondo, when he was picked up.
During a search exercise, the soldiers were said to have seen bundles of new N1,000 notes with bank seals in the suspect’s bag.
Being aware of the robbery incident in Lagos, the soldiers detained him and alerted the Lagos Command on the development.
Aderanti was said to have immediately facilitated the handover of the suspect to the Command for further interrogation and subsequent arrest of the others.
