Boko Haram militants attacked Buni Yadi, the headquarters of Gujba Local Government Area in Yobe State late on Thursday and it is unclear how the fighting had ended, military sources told Reuters on Friday.
There is yet no information on any casualties after the attack that started at around 9 p.m.
A detachment of troops with armoured personnel carriers and a fighter jet were seen heading towards the town on Friday morning.
The militants took over the town earlier this year but were chased out by the military on March, 7.
