Veteran filmmaker, Eddie Ugbomah, caused a scare on Thursday after he posted a message on Facebook that he has high blood pressure and was dying.
The case of the former chairman of the Nigerian Film Corporation (NFC) is made worse by the lack of basic infrastructure in Ilogbo Eremi, the suburb where he lives in Lagos.
“I am seriously down with 205/190 BP, no road, no light, no clinic and I am dying. What a shameless country. The nearest clinic is 5 miles away. The town in Ilogbo Eremi off Badagry exp road,” the 77-year-old wrote.
Stunned by the revelation, the management of the NFC, where is daughter now works has been forced to act.
Qed.ng learnt NFC MD, Chidia Maduekwe, has dispatched a team from the corporation’s Lagos zonal office to visit Ugbomah and report back to him.
A source in the agency told this online newspaper that “we are committed to Chief Ugbomah’s welfare and will do all within our capacity to help.”
Donation is also being made to a Zenith Bank account in his name.
A holder of the national honour of Order of the Niger (OON), Ugbomah’s works include Rise and Fall of Oyenusi, Oil Doom, The Boy is Good, Death of the Black President and Apalara.
