Nollywood actress, Kate Henshaw, will be the star attraction at the Lagos Book and Art Festival (LABAF) on Friday, November 9 to talk about her life’s journey with books.
The 47-year-old will be effectively declaring open a core segment of the festival which is the kiddies’ programme featuring 300 students from over seven secondary schools.
The Book in My Life is an open-air TedEx kind of talk in which a celebrity known to be both jovial and cerebral addresses a gathering of young Nigerians on what books have done to their life.
Over the 20 editions of LABAF, this major kiddies’ segment has featured such distinguished Nigerians like Prof Femi Osofisan, Bishop Matthew Kukah, Richard Mofe Damijo, Joke Silva and Ali Baba.
“In The Book in My Life, the speaker talks about how books have shaped their lives and helped them to be what they have become”, said Jahman Anikulapo, programme chair of the Committee for Relevant Art (CORA) and director of the festival. “The event was created to mentor children about the values of literacy”.
Anikulapo added that Kate, who has starred in over 50 movies in the last 25 years and has also published a book, The World of an Actress: My Story, accepted the invitation of role modelling the young participants at LABAF this year without hesitation. “She says she looks forward to a great time with the children”.
The entire LABAF 2018 runs from November 5 to 11, 2018 as a comprehensive seven-day cultural picnic including readings sessions, conversations around books, art and craft displays, kiddies’ art workshops, book exhibitions, live music and dance.
There are also publisher’s forum, writers’ workshops and book treks.
Venue is Freedom Park on Lagos Island.
