Cech wins trophy in debut Arsenal match

Cech BAT CupPetr Cech made his Arsenal debut since moving from London bitter rivals Chelsea as the Gunners beat Everton 3-1 to lift the Barclays Asia Trophy on Saturday.

The Czech international pulled off magnificent saves and was roundly cheered every time he touched the ball in the final match played Singapore.

“It was great finally to have a game under the belt, the first game for me with the team,” said the goalkeeper who spent 11 years at Stamford Bridge.

“It was important to get fit and now to know everybody around and then to win the game.

“I’m happy with the way I played. One or two passes were not great, but it was the first game of pre-season and glad I went through 90 minutes and I was happy with the way I concentrated all game.

“The main thing was to win, to get sharp and it was great team work today. We played well and Everton is a good side who played with good intensity and we put more quality into the finishing.”

While all eyes were on Cech, it was Santi Cazorla who stole the show.

The Spanish wizard set up the first goal for Theo Walcott, scored the second after 58 minutes and then teed up Mesut Ozil four minutes later.

Although nothing of significance was at stake, Arsenal’s superiority confirmed they’ll be challenging at the top when the real action kicks off.

The club’s main focus will be to wrest the Premier League crown from Cech’s former club Chelsea next season.
