Authorities in the Asian country say they are investigating a fraud complaint against Brown and his promoter, John Michael Pio Roda, lodged by Iglesia ni Cristo, or Church of Christ.
The politically powerful church group claims that Brown, 26, failed to perform at a New Year’s Eve concert last year at one of its arenas — even after they say he was paid in full for a $1 million contract.
Brown was stopped Wednesday morning while preparing to depart on a private jet from Manila’s international airport on his way to Hong Kong for a concert.
The singer responded Thursday by posting a video on Instagram in which he repeatedly asked: “What the f*** is going on?”
He is heard saying: “Can somebody please tell me what the f*** is going on? I don’t know. I’m reading headline after headline. What the f***? What the f*** is going on?”
The ‘Fine China’ singer added: “When I go through customs, I’m gonna be just like this, ‘Sir, I didn’t do nothing,'” before dropping to the floor and performing a series of comical dance moves.
He has since deleted but the clip had gone viral by then.
His representatives have said the contract dispute with the church “was a misunderstanding that has since been cleared up. Chris leaves tomorrow for Hong Kong to continue his planned performances.”
Brown performed to a packed crowd at Manila’s Mall of Asia Arena on Tuesday, the day before he was stopped at the airport.
