Nigerian social media users have reacted angrily to news that American socialite, Blac Chyna, is coming to Lagos promote a bleaching product.
The 30-year-old former Kardashian in-law confirmed her presence in an Instagram post on Tuesday.
“Lagos Nigeria, join me at the first official launch of my face cream this Sunday, November 25th at the Whitenicious store from 1-5PM. Everyone is invited,” she wrote.
The free access event will feature guest appearance by cross-dresser, Bobrisky.
Founded by Cameroonian pop star Dencia, Whitenicious raised major controversy when it debuted in 2014, touting itself as a “fast acting, 7-day dark spot remover,” with before-and-afters of its formerly milk chocolate-hued founder turned a milky skin tone.
Similarly, Whitenicious x Blac Chyna Diamond Illuminating & Lightening Cream, which is thus far being launched and promoted exclusively in Africa, suggests “looking at the bright side of our faces,” with several Instagram posts featuring the media personality and mother of two preening with a Swarovski-encrusted jar of cream, and appearing slightly paler than her already light-skinned self.
Nigerians on Twitter have reacted angrily Blac Chyna’s visit as some of the tweets below show.
The uncontrolled publicised sale of bleaching creams in Nigeria is a complete national disgrace.
That Blac Chyna can come all the way from US to actively promote a product that will literally ruin the lives of people is a shameful low which confirms we don’t value human lives.

Blac Chyna launching a skin bleaching cream is just Blac Chyna doing Blac Chyna things…the real issue here is that it’s being targeted to the Nigerian market and the fact that the villainous product will most likely sell out in Nigeria.

Blac Chyna partnering up with Africa’s bleaching king and queen to create a new face bleaching cream is beyond problematic.
It’s really rubbing me the wrong way, ain’t no way in hell she would do that in LA. Exploiting Nigeria’s colourism problem is disgusting
— Tops (@SincerelyTops) November 20, 2018
Blac Chyna is taking advantage of the insecurities of colourism and self hate. She is disgusting. Skin whitening cream is horrible. This should not be advertised and she is choosing Africa for a reason. Shameful.

Blac Chyna selling bleaching cream in Africa??? The world really is backwards, sad thing is people will actually buy it.

Blac Chyna is going to Lagos, Nigeria to promote a bleaching cream and I am honestly disgusted.

First of all Kupe Boys came here to dance one Mumu dance in Lagos and Abuja, Now Blac Chyna is coming to sell bleaching cream of $250 per cream
What is going on in this country ? 😭
— JAGS (@EtniesJags) November 20, 2018
My annoyance is not even that Blac Chyna wants to sell bleaching cream in Nigeria, is that she’s selling it at $250 that’s about 90k equivalent in Naira. And guess what?? People are definitely going to buy 🤷🏼♀️
— Sally (@__Calebsgirl) November 20, 2018
There are, however, people who see her sales pitch in Nigeria as no big deal.
Blac Chyna is a businesswoman. There is already a thriving market for bleaching creams she wants to tap into.
So what’s the problem exactly? Someone please explain this to me. I am not understanding and I really want to
— Kelvin Odanz (@Kelvin_Odanz) November 21, 2018
Exactly. I really cannot understand why Blac Chyna is being dragged. First of all, Skin bleaching is a choice just like plastic surgery and many other things. Also the onus to purchase stuff like this lies with the buyer not the seller so long as the later makes full disclosure. https://t.co/2UsYwWW5xT

Blac Chyna is only monetizing the hate you people have for darkskinned people. From abusing Ghanaians to calling dark skinned people ‘charcoal’ to making jokes that promote colorism, Blac Chyna is going to make money off of it. You don’t like it ? End colorism.
— Baba Folarin (@That_IjebuBadoo) November 20, 2018
The World Health Organization has reported that Nigerians are the highest users of skin whitening products, a whooping 77% of Nigerian women use skin whitening products on a regular basis. its no brainer why Blac Chyna decided to target the Lagos market first.
— Deacon ‘Dolapo (@dollycent) November 20, 2018
Instead of making threads about Blac Chyna what we should be focusing on is the root of the problem which is evidently colourism and white supremacy. Skin bleaching didn’t start yesterday and Blac Chyna is just one of MANY ppl who have fallen into its trap.
