The six-man legal committee meeting of the University of Ibadan International School Parents Teachers’ Association set up to advice on the steps to be taken over the use of hijab has ended on Sunday in stalemate.
The committee was set up to give advice to the association on decisions to take concerning the suit made by some Muslim parents against the school, the University of Ibadan and others over the use of hijab.
One parent who did not want name mentioned said they were unable to reach a consensus on the matter.
“A six-man committee was set up today. They are to advice on the decision to take and recommend but the final decision lies on us.
“The PTA chairman, Kazeem Olaniyan of course is also a member. The committee is to advice if PTA is to join. But, we are saying, are they going to spend our money or not. Some of us said that they should not spend our money.
“Some of us said they cannot use our money if we are to join in the suit as an interested party. Another female made a valid suggestion that if we are to join, people should join as an individual and not on behalf of PTA because the parents that are clamouring for the use of hijab are not using the PTA money.
“So we said they should not use PTA money if PTA is to join,” a parent was quoted to have said.
Some Muslim parents had sued the school, University of Ibadan and others on Tuesday December 4 in an Oyo High Court in Ibadan for not allowing their female children to wear the hijab on their school uniforms.
