An indigene of Ogoja in Cross River State on Tuesday killed his four children after chasing his wife away.
The suspect who is yet to be identified also set his house ablaze and hanged himself.
The incident is said to have occurred at Alesa, near Port Harcourt, Eleme Local Government Area of Rivers State.
His fleeing wife raised an alarm that her husband wanted to kill her and their children, but before neighbours could move to the two-room apartment, the deed had already been done.
The four sleeping children were strangled to death, giving them no chance of escaping to safety.
Rivers police spokesman Nnamdi Omoni confirmed the incident on phone.
