A 38-year-old man Olusanya Adebayo has appeared in a Yaba Chief Magistrates’ Court in Lagos for allegedly beating up a woman who refused his sexual advances.
The police charged Mr Olusanya, a resident of Yaba, Lagos with two counts of assault and causing grievous bodily harm.
The prosecutor Modupe Olaluwoye told the court that the accused committed the offence on November 3 at 5.30 p.m. at Efon-Alaye street in Somolu area of Lagos.
Mrs Olaluwoye said that the defendant assaulted the complainant Ms Chidinma Ekpendu because she refused to date him.
Olaluwoye added that on the fateful day, the accused had gone to the complainant’s house with a friend to further convince her, but when she refused again, he got angry and began to beat her up.
In the process the complainant sustained serious injuries, Olaluwoye said.
The offences contravened provisions of sections 411 and 173 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State 2015 (Revised).
The accused pleaded not guilty to the charges.
Chief Magistrate Oluwatoyin Oghere admitted the accused to bail in the sum of N50,000 with two sureties in like sum.
Mrs Oghere ordered that one of the sureties must be a blood relation and must reside within the court’s jurisdiction.
She added that both sureties must be gainfully employed and must have evidence of three years’ tax payment to the Lagos State Government.
The case was adjourned until February 20, 2019 for trial.
