US-based Nigerian human rights activist Edafe Okporo has apologised to another US-based Nigerian actor Williams Uchemba over the fraud allegation he levied against him.
Mr Uchemba was accused of using the UN’s name for fraud after messages of him requesting money from Mr Okporo to arrange a delegation to a UN youth event in the US went viral on Sunday.
Okporo alerted UN envoy Jayathma Wickramanayake an aide to UN Secretary-General António Guterres who said Uchemba was unknown to the organisation.
But Uchemba in a series of videos on Instagram on Sunday disowned a Twitter account in his name which had been used in exchange of messages with Okporo as that of a known fraudster.
Okporo has now apologised, stressing that miscommunication had influenced the truth.
“I apologize to all Nigerian youths and respect the art that made @williamsuchemba the man he is today.
“Many people have been able to prove that we are a country that can speak up for what is right to protect all his citizens.
“Miscommunications have influenced the truth,” Okporo wrote in one of his posts shared on Instagram by Uchemba.
